Colation For The Abolation of Safer Cites Initiative

Naming The Problem

Hello, my name is Michael Human I am a human rights and homeless rights activist. I am appealing to you for your support in an effort to help end the oppressive policing and selective enforcement that is being visited on the poor and the homeless people of Skid Row Los Angeles. The city government and the police call this activity Safer Cities Initiative. I call it Socio-Economic cleansing.

I have been lobbying the Los Angeles city government, promoting the human and homeless rights of the poor and the homeless people of Skid Row Los Angeles, for over a year. (Fall 2007)

So what is new? It is time to name the problem. What problem? The problem is the assault on the human and civil rights of the poor and homeless people of Skid Row Los Angeles.

What are the manifestations of this problem? Oppressive policing, selective enforcement, violence under the cover of authority, taking of property without due process, using court supervision and questionable police practices, to debase and humiliate poor and homeless people and using mean spirited strategies to persecute and harass poor people, who have nothing, and have no place to go.

The city calls the above activities Safer Cities Initiative. Why fight city hall, if you don’t have too? After all, city government, the police and their gentrification boosters have worked hard to give this disastiorous social policy a name.

It is in the spirit of naming the problem that I have shifted all of my efforts at lobbying city government, and it’s agencies to, and under the banner of C A S C I.

I asked my friends at the Catholic Worker, Los Angeles (Hippie Kitchen) if they would join me in this coalition to promote human and homeless rights, and to name and oppose Safer Cities Initiative, along with all of it’s infimamous manifestations. They said yes. Members

Now I am asking for you and / or your organization’s support in this named effort to promote the human and civil rights of the poor and homeless people, of Skid Row Los Angeles. Joining C A S C I should not detract from other human and civil rights programs that you are engaged in. Joining C A S C I will enable you to use the C A S C I name to brand the city government, the police and the Safer City Initiative boosters with all the infamy that the Safer Cities Imitative so richly deserves.

In Solidarity,

Michael Hubman
